WALKING GALLERY / 1996
Designlabor Schloss Solitude
A interactive presentation of jewely by Anke Fischer, Peter Grosshauser, Susanne Hammer, Susa Pop
The Walking Gallery aims at working out alternatives to the traditional presentation of jewelry with a focus on testing interactive systems in an experimental way. The very term Walking Gallery refers to a "moving" form of presentation based on the idea that jewelry should not be presented, but actually worn at social events, in the street, in restaurants etc. by people who like contemporary jewelry and are willing to participate.
The Walking Gallery is a poject of the design lab "Schloss Solitude", which was founded in March 1996 by Anke Fischer, Susanne Hammer and Susa Pop. This design lab sees itself as a temporary group which works on issues such as communication and presentation systems and sales and marketing channels.
On April 18, May 23 and at the summer party on 29 June these interactive presentations took (take) place at in-house events such as concerts, openings of exhibitions, public readings and so on.
Prior to the event, people with an interest in jewelry were(are) invited to select a piece of jewelry from the designers and to wear it during the event. The visitors were (are) informed that a jewelry presentation of a different kind was (is) taking place - "Discover jewelry worn by guests oft he academy."
